by Stephanie C, Main Library It has been a few months (six to be exact) since we had a Teen Librarian at our Glendale Branch. Sometimes hiring someone new takes a while when you have an organization with over 300 staff, and positions opening up all the time. We wanted to find the perfect person for our Glendale neighborhood, someone who really knows the community, and has experience working with young people. Well, you've waited long enough....Introducing Saia, our newest Teen Librarian! Here he is to tell you a little about himself:
For twenty eight rotations around the sun I have called Glendale home and I am a proud Westsider of Salt Lake City. I attended East High School and the University of Utah where I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Sociology & Ethnic Studies. In my career, I have been involved in education and community programming specifically aimed at youth who find themselves on the margins of society. As a kid who did not think he would graduate high school, let alone college, I decided that I wanted to give back and help the youth in my community. Though I am passionate about where I come from, my first love was the written word-especially poetry. Poetry has been a means to express my inner world and allow the overflow of emotions to seep over the pages of my notebook and connect with others around me. I enjoy performance poetry though most times I prefer to lose myself between blue lines on white paper. I am honored to be a part of the Salt Lake City Public Library team and I am excited to work and connect with all of you. I am an open book and I love to chat so hit me up in an email anytime! -Saia slangi@slcpl.org
